Bay men, women beat UW-Superior JVs

SUPERIOR, Wisconsin — Negaunee High School graduate Dre Tuominen scored 22 points to help the Bay de Noc Community College men’s basketball team take a 75-63 victory over the Wisconsin-Superior JV on Friday night.

Tuominen made four 3-pointers and both his free throws while delivering a game-high seven assists and only turning the ball over one time in 34 minutes.

Teammate Kobi Barnes led all players with 25 points, 13 rebounds and four blocked shots.

Marquette Senior High School product Garrett Finkbeiner scored five points, including a triple and had a rebound and assist, while Hunter Schultz of Republic-Michigamme had a rebound and a block and Darien Nichols of Manistique played one minute without a statistic.

Bay also led 39-30 at halftime.

In the women’s game, Westwood grad Caitlin Hewitt scored five points as the Bay women also prevailed 71-63.

Hewitt, who hit a 3-pointer, added four rebounds and three assists in 22 minutes off the bench.

Justice Kinnunen of Baraga started and played 39 minutes, scoring three points and adding four rebounds, an assist and a steal.

The Norse’s Jordan Kraemer led all players with 30 points as Bay led 11-9 after one quarter, 35-22 at halftime and 55-41 after the third.

The Bay teams complete their regular seasons with home games against Gogebic CC next Saturday. The women play at 1 p.m. and the men at 3 p.m.
