NMU lacrosse signs 9 players

MARQUETTE — The Northern Michigan University women’s lacrosse team signed nine student-athletes to nationals letters of intent during the early signing period earlier this month, head coach Emilia Ward announced.

The Wildcats begin their second season in mid-February.

Here is a brief sketch of each recruit:

Jessica Close — A defender from Stafford, Virginia, she was Colonial Forge High School’s team captain for two years, named first team all-conference and first team all-region three times each, and was second team all-state as a junior.

Jessica Daniels — Playing midfield and defense at Brighton High School, she earned all-state honorable mention and all-conference first team three times apiece.

Ava Engler — A three-year starter at Blaine High School in Ham Lake, Minnesota, she has earned all-conference honors as an attacker and midfielder.

Emily Renfrew — at Okemos High School, she was second team all-state as a junior and honorable mention all-state as a senior, having also earned all-conference and conference dream team honors two times each.

Aleya Speas — A three-year player at Castle View High School in Castle Rock, Colorado, she has been second team all-league and academic all-state first team.

Cameron Stilson — Joining Daniels as another player from Brighton, she is a goalie who was named first-team all-state and all-conference as a senior, when she had the third-most saves in a game in Michigan.

Stefanie Suhon — Joining Engler from Blaine High, she is a defender who played two sports, earned a number of academic honors and was offensive player of the year as a JV team member back when she was in eighth grade.

Marina Wilson — A four-year letterwinner at Avon Lake, Ohio, High School, she was her team’s attacker of the year the past two seasons and second team all-region as a junior.

Katie Zarembski — From Huntley High School in Algonquin, Illinois, she is a midfielder and defender who earned her team player award this year.
