NMU women look to build on win

MARQUETTE — The women’s soccer team at Northern Michigan University hopes to build a winning streak as it hits the road for its first GLIAC matches of the season over the next three days.

The Wildcats, who won for the first time on Sunday, travel to Hammond, Indiana, to play Purdue-Northwest (0-4) at 1 p.m. Friday and to Grand Rapids to face Davenport (4-2) at noon Sunday. Both are first-ever meetings for NMU.

Northern’s first victory came at home against Northwood 2-0 on Sunday, following a 3-2 double-overtime loss to Saginaw Valley State two days earlier.

The shutout by NMU (1-5) was the first for freshman goalkeeper Brianna Frontuto as freshman teammate Jenna Halonen had a pair of goals over the home weekend for a team-leading eight points on three goals and two assists this season.
