NMU men face new GLIAC members

MARQUETTE — The men’s soccer team at Northern Michigan University takes to the road to face the GLIAC’s two newest members for their first-ever meetings with them over the next three days.

The Wildcats (2-3-1, 0-2 GLIAC) play at Purdue-Northwest (2-2-1, 0-1) in Hammond, Indiana, at 4:30 p.m. EDT Friday and Davenport (4-2, 1-1) in Grand Rapids at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Junior forward Sam Popp leads Northern with five points on a pair of goals and an assist. Freshman teammate Birkir Baldursson also has two goals, while junior Nic Harenda leads the Wildcats in assists with three.

Sophomore Filippo Torelli has played in all 570 minutes in goal for NMU over the first three weeks of the season, attaining a goals-against average of 1.58 while facing 23 shots on goal and saving 13.
