Mavericks, Railroaders earn victories
GWINN — In Superiorland baseball action Monday night, the Marquette County Mavericks shut out Coldwell Banker Craig Heinonen 6-0 in eight innings. The game was called after the eighth due to poor weather conditions.
Three Mavericks pitchers (Jacob Adriano, Steve Hintsala and Preston Hutchens) combined to one-hit Congress, while only giving up two walks and striking out 11. Marquette County also got some offensive help from Adriano and Hintsala with both notching multiple hits.
Jay Daavettila took the loss for CBCH, giving up eight hits and nine walks, while striking out four.
The Mavs scored got on the board with a run in the top of the first inning. They padded their lead with another in the second and a third in the seventh. Hutchens later crushed a ball off the top of the fence in the eighth inning to clear the bases and help nail down the win for Marquette County.
Meanwhile out in Channing, the Railroaders remained undefeated (6-0) after defeating Congress Pizza 3-0. Logan O’Neil pitched seven scoreless innings, while racking up five strikeouts for Channing. Lane Holsworth led Channing with two hits, one being a triple, and a run scored. Barry Holsworth had a single and a run scored, while Ben McClellan had a RBI for the Railroaders.
Randy Trepanier, Derek Mahoski and Tyrus Millimaki all had hits for Congress Pizza.
