Roberts leads powerful AAA Insurance attack

ISHPEMING — Chelsea Roberts hit a grand slam home run and teammates Chelsey Robinson, Heidi Verville and Toni Tikkanen each homered to power AAA Insurance to a 24-18 win over Jack’s TeePee 2 in a Class C game of the Iron Range Women’s Softball League on June 28.

Holly Luokkala and Payton Drew each hit grand slams for Jack’s.

In another Class C game, Jordan Wixtrom and Libby Lee homered to lead River Rock Lanes to a 23-9 win over QCPFC. Katie Trudgeon and Krystal Foster each were 3 for 3 for QCPFC.

Anna Chipman, Stacie Vahamaa and Ellen Sundberg hit two doubles apiece and teammates Cheryl Churack and Kera Williams had one double each to lead U.P. Health Plan to a 33-10 win over Venice 2.

Chipman and Churack also homered, Sundberg had six RBIs and Vahamaa was 4 for 4, while Venice’s Kristen Utzman hit two doubles.

Annette Gleason and Angela Leece both homered to help Marquette Embroidery get past U.P. Fabricating 19-3. UPF pitcher Jess Noskey struck out five.

Rachel Frederick and Lori Nylander each went 4 for 5 to lead Paradise past Willey’s Tire Shop 28-7. All four of Frederick’s hits were doubles as were two of Nylander’s.

Becky Grove, who doubled, and Miranda Cobb each went 3 for 4 for Willey’s.

Kinsie Bertucci homered to lead Bertucci Construction over Wooden Nickel 18-11. Nickel’s Bethany Firby had three hits, two of them doubles.

In Class A, Carla Honkala homered and Laura L’Esperance tripled to help Honkala Construction squeeze by Martin Sports 14-10. Martin’s Shana Caliguri, who homered and had three RBIs, and Tayler Gray, who had two RBIs, each went 2 for 3.

Molly Wales was 6 for 6 with a rare over-the-fence homer to lead Cognition Brewing Co. to a 34-11 pounding of Crossfit 906. Crossfit’s Hilary Richardson, Danielle Burke and Linda Stanaway all went 3 for 3.

Stacie Kruse was 4 for 4 and Brittney Terzaghi 3 for 4 to lead Screened Image to a low-scoring 10-6 win over Sister’s. Sister’s Linda Dompierre was 3 for 4 and Anna Noskey 2 for 4 with a triple.

Abbie Salisbury was 4 for 4 and Chelsie Wealton homered to lead Venice 1 to a 17-7 win over Jubilee Foods. Amanda Harlock and Bethy Williams each had hits for Jubilee.

Amber Buckmaster, who tripled, and Nikki Christensen each went 3 for 3 to lead Buck’s Party Store past Jasper Ridge Brewery 18-3. Jasper’s Alyssa Bjork doubled and had three RBIs while Erika Bjorne was 2 for 3.

In Class B, winning pitcher Sue Bazinette was helped by Amy Bazinette going 3 for 3 and Marianda Heard 2 for 3 with a triple in the Eagles’ 6-4 win over Venice 3. Venice’s Jen Laurila was 2 for 3 while Nichole Sundberg doubled.

Tricia Miilu was 3 for 3 with two doubles and two RBIs as Pasquali’s tripled up Signs Unlimited 15-5. Signs’ Siiri Lawson was 3 for 3 with four RBIs.

Rashael Salbert was 4 for 4, Mel Bess 4 for 5 and Libbie Doney 3 for 4 with a homer in a 25-14 win posted by Dave’s Collision over Quality Car Care. QCC’s Connie Kontio was 3 for 4 and Lori Ring 3 for 5.

Brandi Anderson homered and Kennan Marana tripled to lead Buster’s to a 15-8 win over Jack’s TeePee 1. Jack’s Gabby Crowley was 4 for 4 with a homer.

In the other Class B game, Tino’s defeated Yooper Shirts 11-7.
