Marquette 3rd, 5th at GNC golf

GLADSTONE — You couldn’t ask for a better day to play golf than Thursday during the Great Northern Conference meet held at Terrace Bluff Golf Course.

Gladstone won the boys title with 310 with Escanaba right behind at 314 on a 70-degree day.

“I think they were kind of nervous and they did a good job keeping their composure,” Gladstone coach Dane Quigley said.

Marquette finished third with 342 followed by Kingsford with 357 and Menominee 486.

Escanaba won the girls title with 359 followed by Menominee with 403 in second. The Braves placed third with 425 followed by Kingsford with 443 and Marquette 458.

Gladstone’s Bryce Douglas earned medalist for the boys with 72.

Esky’s Johnny Kositzky and Gladstone’s Rudy Peterson tied for second each with 74.

Menominee’s Evan Kramer shot 76 and Marquette’s Tyler Bergwall 78 to round out the top five.

Ethan Sellers was the Redmen’s No. 2 golfer with 83, followed by Jordan Jurmu with 90 and Andrew Fedrizzi with 91.

The top three girls were Escanaba’s Paxton Johnson taking the top spot with 83, Megan Dagenais runner-up with 86 and Sam Henderson third with 89.

The Redettes’ Ellie Hicks tied for sixth with 100, followed by Janae Peterson with 109, Sierra Bentti with 112 and Avery Ledy 137.
