U.P. all-star football draft Saturday

MARQUETTE — A unique event will take place this weekend for this June’s Upper Peninsula Football All-Star Game to be held at the Superior Dome in Marquette.

Coaching staffs for the Red and Black teams are drafting from a set list of players, with that event to take place at Buffalo Wild Wings in Marquette starting at 6 p.m. Saturday. The public is invited.

Organizers previously established the list of 95 players for the game, who come from all around the U.P. and will include 26 from area schools.

The list includes seven players who are sons of all-star coaches, and those players will automatically be placed on their fathers’ teams. Because the Red team has four sons in that situation and the Black three, the Black will then get the first pick in the draft.

Team Black’s nine coaches include Jeff Olson and George Niemi of Ishpeming and Tom Tereshinski of Manistique, while Team Red’s eight-man staff includes Todd Kangas of Manistique, Pete Paramski of Newberry and Sam Eggleston of Superior Central.

More information on the game, including rosters and draft rules, are available online at www.xcel.net and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/UPAllStarFootball/.
