Marquette Mutineers adult hockey team home this weekend

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Mutineers are looking to bounce back starting tonight after two straight losses in the Great Lakes Hockey League.

The Mutineers host the Calumet Wolverines at Lakeview Arena in Marquette at 8 p.m. today and Saturday.

Marquette’s defense has struggled for two straight weekends in Wisconsin, last Saturday an 11-3 loss at the Fox Cities Ice Dogs in Appleton and the Saturday before against the De Pere Deacons 6-1.

The Mutineers are in fifth place in the league at 10-9, though they had a three-game winning streak before the recent slide, which included a pair of wins at Calumet on Jan. 27-28. Marquette is just one point behind the Portage Lake Pioneers.

Last weekend, the Mutineers started slowly, not getting off a shot for the first four minutes and no shot on goal for the opening nine minutes.

Meanwhile, seven Ice Dogs scored a total of eight goals in the first period, four goals coming in the period’s final 2 1/2 minutes.

Marquette played Fox Cities even after that with Brandon Knopp taking over in the Mutineers’ net. Joey Enright had a power play goal in the second period while teammate Dallas McLaughlin added two more in the third to bump his GLHL-leading scoring pace to 57 points including 35 goals.

This weekend’s pair of games mark the start of six of Marquette’s final seven games at home. The only road contest comes next weekend on Saturday, March 4, at Portage Lake.

Admission is $5, with children 12 and younger admitted free with a paying adult. For more information on the team, visit the website theglhl.com.
