Coaches named to Upper Peninsula high school all-star football game

MARQUETTE — Coaches have been named and the schedule determined for the 10th anniversary of the Upper Peninsula Football All-Star Game in June at the Superior Dome in Marquette.

With this year’s game shifting away from geographical teams, instead a draft by coaches will be held on Saturday, March 18, for the game to be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, at the dome.

Traditional activities for players and coaches will take place in the week leading up to the game, including a food drive for Beacon House, players’ skills challenge, a visit to the Bay Cliff Health Camp in Big Bay and all-star banquet.

Players chosen were previously announced, which included 26 of the 95 coming from area teams.

The Team Black coaches include Jeff Olson and George Niemi from Ishpeming and Tom Tereshinski of Manistique. That staff is rounded out by St. Ignace’s Marty Spencer, Les Therrian, Chris Marshall, Chuck McCall and Mike Shepard and Bark River-Harris’ Al Stenberg.

Team Red includes Todd Kangas of Manistique, Pete Paramski of Newberry, Sam Eggleston of Superior Central and is rounded out by Garde Kangas of Pickford; Cody Kangas, formerly of Gladstone; Ken Klein and Leon Sutherland of Lake Linden-Hubbell; and Jim Belec of Carney-Nadeau.
