Olympic Training Center: Greco-Roman wrestler Sanders wins gold in Colorado

MARQUETTE – Northern Michigan University Olympic Training Site Greco-Roman wrestler Kendrick Sanders claimed a gold medal Thursday at the Dave Schultz Memorial International at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Sanders, of Homestead, Fla., defeated former NMU-OTS athlete Bo Beckman in the 71-kilogram weight class finals.

Curt Calovecchi of Marquette took fourth place at 80 kg.

Also finishing fourth was recent OTS alumnus Mark Stenberg of the New York Athletic Club at 85 kg.

Two OTS athletes took sixth place. Anthonie Linares of San Jose, Calif., at 71 kg., and Parker Betts of St. Michael, Minn., at 130 kg.

The event included athletes from China, Japan, Kazakhstan and Switzerland, as well as U.S. athletes from the Army, Marines and several club teams.
