GLIAC honors Northern Michigan University basketball players Naba Echols, Darby Youngstrom
The Wildcats’ starting point guard averaged 24 points in Northern’s two games last week on the road at Ferris State and Lake Superior State. He scored 26 points against the Bulldogs with six 3-pointers and dropped in 22 points against the Lakers.
Echols wasn’t the only honoree this week as the NMU women also had a player earn the award.
Senior Darby Youngstrom won the North Division women’s honor for the second time this season.
Youngstrom led the Wildcats with 20 points per game in victories at Ferris and LSSU and put up a career-high 25 in a double-overtime win over the Bulldogs. She also had a career-high four steals.
Youngstrom is just 35 points away from scoring 1,000 in her career at NMU and has the chance to earn that honor this week as the Wildcats head to Grand Valley State tonight and Davenport on Saturday.
