Northern Michigan University Wildcats’ Lexi Smith named GLIAC North Player of the Week
BAY CITY — After two solid games last week, Northern Michigan University sophomore women’s basketball player Lexi Smith was named GLIAC North Player of the Week. She’s the first NMU women’s player to earn the award since 2015.
Smith was the Wildcats’ offensive leader last week, averaging 15.5 points in two games. In NMU’s win over Wayne State, Smith scored 12 points and snatched eight rebounds, and then in a loss to No. 8 Ashland, she scored a team-high 19 points and had five rebounds.
She is currently tied for the lead in points per game with Jessica Schultz at 10.5, is second in steals (9), tied for second in rebounds per game (5.1) and tied for third in assists (15).
Northern (10-4, 5-1 GLIAC) hosts Lake Superior State at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Berry Events Center.
