MARQUETTE — Fast and efficient are two words that describe the Marquette hockey team’s performance Thursday night.

The Redmen blitzed Escanaba for two goals within the first two minutes of the game and added two shorthanded tallies along the way as they blew out the Eskymos 6-0.

Tanner Phillips had two goals and two assists for Marquette (11-3-1), while Tyler Bergwall made 20 saves in net to get the shutout.

“I’m really happy with how we played tonight and I thought our penalty kill was exceptional,” Redmen head coach Doug Garrow said. “It was a good team effort and we’ve just got to keep getting better every game.”

Phillips got Marquette on the scoreboard just 1:12 into the game and less than a minute later, Lucas Guertin found the back of the net. Just like that, the Redmen had a two-goal lead and they maintained that lead for the rest of the period.

In the second period, the floodgates opened. Early in the period, Gaetanno Cammarata broke free for an unassisted shorthanded goal as Marquette built a three-goal advantage.

At the 5:48 mark, Ryan Baldwin padded the Redmen’s lead to four, and at 9:36, Phillips got his second goal of the night, this time on a shorty. Thomas Dunleavy capped off the Redmen scoring with a goal at the 16:12 mark.
