Manistique football forfeits again
NEGAUNEE — For the second time in three weeks, Manistique High School will have to forfeit a varsity football game due to a lack of healthy players.
Manistique athletic director Rob Ryan and his Negaunee counterpart, Andrew Brunette, announced separately Monday that the Miners-Emeralds game scheduled for Miners Field in Negaunee on Friday night has been canceled and forfeited to Negaunee.
The same happened to Manistique on Aug. 30 when the Schoolcraft County school couldn’t find enough healthy players to play a game at Gwinn.
Even last week, when the Emeralds lost 41-0 at home to West Iron County, the Iron Mountain Daily News reported that Manistique started the game with 12 healthy players and finished with only 11.
No information has been forthcoming about whether the Emeralds will be able to finish their season, the first of the newly revamped West PAC that absorbed most members of the Mid-Peninsula Conference.
