Gwinn Modeltowners volleyball team serves their way to 4-set win at West Iron County

IRON RIVER — Led by senior captain Brooke Mannor, Gwinn served up a four-set victory at West Iron County in a high school volleyball match played Thursday evening.

In the 25-12, 25-20, 25-27, 25-10 victory, the Modeltowners served for 21 aces, including seven by Mannor.

“We have been working on our serving, trying to create problems for the other team when we put the ball in play,” GHS coach Toni Roberts said. “Those 21 aces are almost a full game’s worth of points.

“We’ve been emphasizing in practice playing 25-point sets. That means no breaks or lulls, and what we’ve done in practice is starting to pay off in the game.”

Mannor also led Gwinn (5-3 overall, 2-1 West PAC) with 15 kills as she added 15 digs.

Senior teammate Hannah Noel had nine kills and six blocks, junior Marissa Delmont nine kills and 20 set assists, senior Larissa Wixtrom 20 digs and junior Megan Ruokolainen 22 set assists.

Gwinn, along with Ishpeming and Westwood, are scheduled to participate at The Rock Invitational in Gladstone on Saturday morning.
