Ishpeming Hematites, Iron Mountain Mountaineers girls tennis teams tie 4-4

ISHPEMING — Ishpeming won two of the three matches that went to a third set to pull out a 4-4 tie in a high school girls tennis meet against visiting Iron Mountain on Thursday.

The Hematites’ Audrey Stetson came back against IM’s Arianna Morel for a 5-7, 6-2, 10-2 win with a pro-style, third-set tiebreaker at No. 2 singles, while Ishpeming’s Marissa Neveau and Bailey Peterson also dropped their first set before recovering for a 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 victory over the Mountaineers’ Clara Irwin and Courtney Partello at No. 3 doubles.

Two-set victories were posted by the Hematites’ MaKenzee VanBuren at No. 3 singles and by Tia Mattila and Emily Quayle at No. 4 doubles.

Ishpeming hosts Munising at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
