MARQUETTE — Next season may be a few months away for the Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team, but the Wildcats took their first step in preparing for that Tuesday by announcing their upcoming schedule.

NMU will host 13 games including two exhibition contests to start the year against Finlandia Nov. 3 and Lake Superior State the following afternoon.

After competing in the GLVC-GLIAC Challenge at Hillsdale Nov. 10-11, the Wildcats will play three straight home games starting with a contest against Minnesota-Duluth Nov. 13 and followed by Minnesota State Mankato Nov. 16 and Minnesota State Moorhead Nov. 18.

Northern travels to Minnesota for a Thanksgiving tournament Nov. 23-24 at Concordia-St. Paul before opening GLIAC play Nov. 29 at Northwood.

The Wildcats will then host their first GLIAC contest Dec. 6 against Purdue Northwest followed by a game against GLIAC newcomer Wisconsin-Parkside Dec. 8.

NMU plays its last nonconference game Dec. 17 at home against Lewis.

The annual home-and-home rivalry games with Michigan Tech are scheduled for Jan. 26 in Marquette and then Mar. 2 in Houghton.

Last year, the Wildcats were hit hard by injuries, but managed to fight their way to the GLIAC Tournament for the seventh straight season. Northern also returns the majority of its roster, so there’s a lot of potential for improvement in 2018-19.
