MARQUETTE — Including five wins by Northern Michigan University wrestlers, Team USA won 14 of 20 matches against Sweden at a dual Greco-Roman wrestling meet held at the Superior Dome in Marquette on Wednesday night.

Team USA was composed of NMU Olympic Training Site athletes and wrestlers visiting NMU for the Superior International Wrestling Camp. Sweden brough 15 athletes of its own.

The sixth annual camp opened Monday and runs through Saturday with 80 athletes from around the U.S.

“The camp brings about 80 prospective students to campus,” NMU-OTS assistant coach and former Olympian Andy Bisek said in an OTS news release. “There’s a lot of guys here that I like and I’m excited to see them progress during the next few days.”

A meet highlight was Reese Dalton of the NMU-OTS splitting a pair of matches against Oscar Holmen at 71 kilograms (156.5 pounds). This was the only rematch of the night, though all the Swedes wrestled two matches.

Holmen won the opener 7-4 before Dalton came back for a 4-0 victory by pin the second time around.

“He didn’t score in the first match because he wasn’t controlling any position,” Bisek said. “He had time to adjust between the two matches. The second match was a fresh start. He had a beautiful head lock.”
