MARQUETTE — After a successful 2017 season, the Northern Michigan University women’s cross-country team will look to build on that this year as the Wildcats recently announced their upcoming schedule.

Northern starts things off with a scrimmage at Michigan Tech Aug. 30 and will officially open up the year Sept. 8 with the Ray Helsing Bulldog Invitational at Ferris State.

The Wildcats then compete in the Spartan Invite in East Lansing Sept. 14 followed by the Roy Griak Invitational in St. Paul, Minn. Sept. 29. After the Conference Crossover Oct. 6 in Romeoville, Ill., Northern will have its only home meet of the year, the U.P. Championships Oct. 19 at the Marquette Golf Course.

The GLIAC Championships are set for Nov. 3 at Grand Valley State with the NCAA Division II Midwest Regionals following Nov. 17 at Hillsdale. The NCAA Championships close out the year Dec. 1 in Pittsburgh, Penn.

In 2017, the Wildcats made the NCAA Championships for the third straight season, finishing 13th overall, and took fourth at the Midwest Regionals. Now-graduate Kameron Burmeister notched her second All-American award in a row and was also named to the All-GLIAC First Team along with now-junior Katelyn Smith. Graduate Vivian Hett and current now-seniors Sophie McDonald and Abby Fifarek all made the All-GLIAC Second Team.
