Marquette Redmen baseball sweeps Kingsford at home

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Senior High School baseball team earned a doubleheader sweep of Kingsford Monday at Haley Field in Marquette.

The Redmen earned a narrow 6-5 win a Game 1 before exploding for a 10-0, four-inning mercy rule win in Game 2.

After Marquette jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning in Game 1, the Flivvers came back with five runs of their own in the third to go up 5-4. Marquette scored two more in the bottom of the fifth and held on.

Junior pitcher Tyler Delmont went five innings for the Redmen and struck out three. Hogan Nemetz and Blake Henriksen each had an RBI for Marquette.

Alec Beauchamp started on the mound for the Redmen in Game 2 and tossed seven strikeouts over four innings.

Four innings is all the Redmen needed as the lineup got to Kingsford pitcher Jon Sturm early and often, exploding for 10 runs over four innings to earn the victory.

Henriksen went 2 for 2 in Game 2 with three RBIs while Bryce Brazeau was 1 for 2 with an RBI.

Marquette travels to North Central for a doubleheader on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
