WCHA honors Northern Michigan University hockey players Troy Loggins, Philip Beaulieu
Junior forward Troy Loggins was named Offensive Player of the Week while sophomore defenseman Philip Beaulieu earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Loggins finished the three-game weekend with seven points, scoring four goals and adding three assists. He completed the weekend with a career-high four points in Sunday’s series-clinching victory, getting a power-play goal and shorthanded empty-net goal to go with two assists.
For the season, Loggins has 44 points on 21 goals and 23 assists. His point total ranks sixth nationally.
Beaulieu tallied eight points over the weekend, seven of them assists. After notching two assists in each of the first two games, he came up with a three-assist playmaker in the finale. He also scored a goal in the third period Friday, while his plus-minus rating was plus-5 over the series.
For the season, Beaulieu leads all NCAA defensemen with 29 assists and 39 points, with his point total the sixth best-ever by an NMU defenseman.
The Wildcats have earned 11 weekly league awards distributed among six players. Beaulieu has earned the defensive nod three times, while Loggins, senior forward Robbie Payne and senior defenseman Jordan Klimek each getting an award twice.
The Wildcats turn their attention to the best-of-three WCHA playoff semifinals against Bowling Green State to be held at Berry Events Center at 7 p.m. Friday, Saturday, and if necessary Sunday.
