Marquette Redmen, Republic-Michigamme Hawks boys bow out of district basketball tournaments

GAYLORD — Marquette got past the first round of the postseason Monday night, but on Wednesday, its journey hit the end of the road.

The Redmen boys basketball team fought hard but fell at Gaylord 60-46 in the Class A district tournament semifinals.

Junior center Marius Grazulis led Marquette with 25 points, while senior forward Treylon McFerrin added eight and junior guard Raffy Millado seven.

Marquette trailed 21-15 after the first quarter led by Grazulis’ 11 points, but pulled within five of the Blue Devils at halftime, 30-25. The Redmen kept their deficit to single digits after the third quarter, 43-36.

“They had some guys make shots and we didn’t shoot the ball well at all,” Marquette head coach Brad Nelson said. “I’m proud of all of my players and how hard they have worked this year.

“I’m disappointed in the ending, but couldn’t be prouder of a group of young men.”
