Westwood Patriots wrestling team captures Manistique Duals, district tournament titles

The Westwood High School wrestling team has won several late- and post-season championships in recent weeks. The Patriots went undefeated over five matches to claim the Manistique Duals on Jan. 27, with 189-pound-class wrestler Sam Gilles named most valuable wrestler. Then on Feb. 7, Westwood defeated Ishpeming 66-9 to capture the MHSAA Division 4 district title in Gwinn. A week later at home, the Pats felled Manistique 66-6 to make it to the D-4 regional championship match before bowing out to Onaway by a close 42-36 score. (Submitted photo)
