Gladstone boys basketball team jumps out early on Westwood for 52-32 win

ISHPEMING — Senior guard Cameron Mason scored 10 points but it wasn’t enough for the Westwood boys basketball team to overcome Class A-B-C No. 4 Gladstone, who defeated the Patriots 52-32 on Tuesday night.

Gladstone (5-3) held just a four-point advantage after one quarter and it still was 28-18 at halftime.

The Braves defense stepped it up in the third, holding the Patriots (3-4) to just five points and jumped to a 44-23 advantage.

“Gladstone is a good team,” WHS coach Chad Hewitt said. “They jumped out to a 9-0 lead on three shots. We got it down to two (points) in the second, worked our way back into it, and came out flat in the third.

“They made a 16-5 run in the third and I thought that was the turning point of the game.”

Junior forward Blake Hewitt added seven points for Westwood. Gladstone was led by Reece Castor with 19 points.

Westwood hosts Ishpeming on Friday.
