Westwood, Munising volleyball teams prevail

ISHPEMING — Liz Farley had 11 kills and Aliya Leach 10 as Westwood swept a nonconference high school volleyball match from Bark River-Harris on Monday night, 25-19, 27-25, 25-15.

“I thought we played a little slower than we have in previous games,” Patriots coach Heather Salmi said. “I’m looking forward to seeing what the rest of the season brings.”

Farley also had 15 digs and five service aces while Leach added in four aces. Also for Westwood, Sarah Rautio had 11 digs and seven assists; Aidan Reath 11 digs; and Katie Wiljanen seven kills.

The Broncos prevailed in the JV match in two games, though scores weren’t available.


Munising 3, Mid Peninsula 1

At Munising, the Mustangs turned around a third-game loss to win a Skyline Central Conference match in four games, 25-21, 25-14, 18-25, 25-17.

Munising’s Kianne Wendt made 15 kills, six service aces, four digs and a block, while teammate Daryn Johnson added 12 kills, five digs and a block.

In addition for the Mustangs (6-3-3, 2-1 Skyline), Michaela Werner had three kills, two blocks and a dig; and Kaila Cotey had four kills; Marissa Ackerman 22 assists, six digs and two kills; Cheyenne Graves three kills; and Taylor Downs two kills and six digs.
