Kara Harrington, Katie Rankinen lead Tino’s to big win in Iron Range Women’s Softball League

NEGAUNEE — Kara Harrington and Katie Rankinen each went 4 for 4 as Harrington also homered in Tino’s 23-8 victory over Dave’s Collision in a Class B game in the Iron Range Women’s Softball League on July 26.

Jen Wallner also had a 4-for-4 game for Dave’s.

In another Class B game, Jamie Bryan went 3 for 3 and Becky Lee 3 for 4 as Venice 3 edged Buster’s 16-14. Buster’s Ashley Wanhala had a homer and triple while teammate Ally Solander tripled.

Gina Debelak went 6 for 6 and Lori Rivord 4 for 6 as Quality Car Care upended Pasquali’s 21-9. Pasquali’s Tricia Miilu was 3 for 3 and Megan Blixt 3 for 4.

Amy Bazinette homered and went 2 for 3 while Chastity Ellet was 4 for 4 to support winning pitcher Sue Bazinette in the Eagles’ 20-5 victory over Jack’s Teepee 1. Jack’s Tina Maki was 2 for 2 with a double and Mary Zhulkie tripled.

Cari Halbersma and Nicki Chapman each went 3 for 4 to help Signs Unlimited post a 19-8 win over Yooper Shirts, which got homers from Tera Bell and Cassidy Hahn.


In Class C, Emily Richards made four tag-outs at home plate and Rachael Mager homered to help U.P. Fabricating double up Willey’s Tire Shop 12-6. Willey’s Krystal Heikkinen tripled and Megan Menard doubled.

Also in Class C, Liz Beauchamp went 4 for 4 with a grand slam homer and Barb Palomaki 3 for 4 to support winning pitcher Kathy Gischia in QCPFC’s 32-13 pounding of U.P. Health Plan. UPHP’s Anna Chipman was 5 for 5 with a homer, Taryn Gleason 4 for 4 and Ellen Sundberg 3 for 4.

Annette Gleason hit a homer and two doubles while Carla Lovern and Nicole Munson each went 3 for 4 to lead Marquette Embroidery past Wooden Nickel 19-3. Nickel’s Kate Walker was 3 for 3.

Chelsea Roberts hit two homers, Livvie Wood a homer and triple and Chelsey Robinson a homer to power AAA Insurance to a 28-8 win over Venice 2, which got 3-for-3 games out of Mara Couch and Melissa Clark.

Hannah Bertucci tripled and Ashley Bertucci doubled as Bertucci Construction scored a 29-11 win over Jack’s Teepee 2, which got a grand slam from Holly Luokkala and homer from Des Fernandes.

Lisa Niemi homered and went 2 for 4 while Kaylin Maynard was 3 for 3 in Paradise’s 18-2 win over River Rock Lanes, which saw Chris Thexton and Kasey Lee each go 2 for 2.


In Class A, Mariah Lapointe-Dunham cracked an over-the-fence homer while going 5 for 6 and Charissa Johnson homered and doubled as Screened Image rolled to a 34-2 win over Martin Sports, which got a triple from Vanessa Briones.

In another Class A game, Jesse Rosten went 4 for 4 with a triple and Leah Dompierre 3 for 4 with a double as Sister’s squeaked out an 11-9 victory over Venice 1.

Venice’s Abbie Salisbury had a double and three RBIs, Cassy Sandberg went 3 for 4 with an RBI and Nikki Whitford doubled.

Holly Nardi had four hits as Jubilee Foods eeked out a 13-12 win over Honkala Construction, which got a homer from Carla Honkala.

Erika Bjorne went 5 for 5 with a triple and Amber Emanuelson was 4 for 4 as Jasper Ridge Brewery muscled out a 21-9 win over Crossfit 906, which got a double from Heather Salmi.

Libby Nelson was 4 for 4 and Dindy Nord 2 for 2 as Buck’s Party Store shot a 15-9 win over Cognition Brewing Co., which had Terri Todd go 3 for 3 and Nicolette Schultz 3 for 4.
