Superiorland Kiwanis recognizes Marquette Senior High School’s Amber Huebner, Beau Caster as January Athletes of the Month

MARQUETTE — Seniors Amber Huebner and Beau Caster have been named the Superiorland Kiwanis Athletes of the Month for January from Marquette Senior High School.

Huebner has put together an impressive season for the Redettes’ girls basketball team, averaging 15 points, 9.3 rebounds, five assists and 3.8 steals per game.

She has previously been named Defensive Player of the Year and a member of the all-league team in the Great Northern Conference, along with All-Upper Peninsula the past two seasons. And she earned an all-state academic team award, too.

Huebner has also been a four-year member of the cross country team, helping the Redettes win three U.P. titles and earning cross country Dream Team twice, all-state accolades and has been a four-time member of the All-U.P. and All-GNC teams.

In track and field, she is a two-time 3,200-meter champion at the U.P. Finals and holds school and U.P. records as part of the 1,600 and 3,200 relays.

In the classroom, she carries a 3.97 grade-point average and is student body president, member of the National Honor Society and was a finalist for a Scholar-Athlete Award from the Michigan High School Athletic Association.

Outside school, she has helped with the executive board of the National Honor Society and volunteered at Bay Cliff Health Camp as a counselor.

She plans to attend Northern Michigan University and play basketball for the Wildcats.

Caster has a 34-3 record this season, winning at the St. Ignace, Ray Mariucci and New Lothrop invitationals along with the Northern Michigan Championships. He was named tourney MVP at New Lothrop and is a two-time U.P. Championship meet winner.

He recently set the MSHS record for wins in a career with 148 and pins in a career with 101.

Caster carries a 3.16 GPA and consistent member of the honor roll. He has volunteered his time as a youth wrestling coach.

He plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and major in exercise science.
