Marquette Eagle Mine Bantams hockey team runners-up, Marquette Tri Media Pee Wees go 2-1-1

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Eagle Mine Bantam B youth hockey team finished as runners-up at the Sault Ste. Marie Cabin Fever Tournament held Jan. 20-22.

The Marquette team lost 5-2 to St. Ignace in the championship game on Sunday.

Earlier in the event, Eagle Mine defeated Mount Pleasant 6-0 and Sault Ste. Marie Precision Edge 5-0 on Friday.

On Saturday, Marquette tied the Tawas Blackhawks 2-2, then on Sunday, defeated Public Service Garage-Stone Reflections of Negaunee 3-1 in the semifinals.

Tri-Media Pee Wees travel to Wisconsin

The Tri Media Pee Wee AA Under-12 youth hockey team won twice and tied another contest in a four-game road trip to eastern Wisconsin.

Tri Media, now 35-2-4 this season, split a pair of games in De Pere against the Waukesha Warhawks, winning 5-1 and falling 7-4.

In the opener, Marquette’s Caden Bouws scored two goals while Ethan Phillips, Jake Garrow and Drew Dellies had one each. Teammate Liam Beerman made 11 saves for the win in net.

In the nightcap, Owen Riipi notched two goals with Bouws and Dellies getting one each as Beerman recorded 16 saves.

The following day, Tri Media traveled to Fond du Lac to face the Fond du Lac Junior Bears. Marquette won 8-1 and tied 1-1.

In Game 1, Bouws had a three-goal hat trick, while Jack Helgren got two goals and Riipi, Dellies and Jack Side had one apiece as Beerman came up with 10 saves.

In the second contest, Bouws scored and Beerman again made 10 saves.
