7 NMU runners honored

MARQUETTE — Seven women’s cross country runners from Northern Michigan University earned NCAA Division II All-Academic honors from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

“I’m so proud of this team and what they accomplished this year,” NMU head coach Jenny Ryan said.

Students must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 and finish either in the top half of the national meet or top 30 percent of their regional meet.

Only seven schools had as many as seven honorees — NMU, California Baptist, Pittsburg State, Union and Montavello.

Those honored are Caroline Brisbois, a junior majoring in biology; Kameron Burmeister, a junior majoring in nursing; Abby Fifarek, a sophomore majoring in sports science; Vivian Hett, a junior majoring in sports science; Sophie McDonald, a sophomore majoring in neuroscience; Alexis Smith, a freshman majoring in elementary education; and Katelyn Smith, a freshman majoring in language and hearing science.
