MARQUETTE - The 31st annual Harbor Fest held last week was a big success, according to early reports.
Kicking off the annual event was the Thursday night Waterfront Gala, which was sold out. A total of 250 guests ate surf/turf dinners with music and entertainment from Double Trouble DJs. It is estimated the gala netted more than $20,000.
Evidenced by wristband sales, the Friday night crowd numbered at least 1,500 people, who were entertained by the local 1980s music band Clubber Lang and Chicago funk band Bumpus.
On Saturday, at least 3,000 people attended the classic car show, watched the South Shore Fishing Association's live dockside release and listened to musicians, including the acoustic duo Gerry and Alison, rock orchestra Ecclectico, local band Chasin' Steel and the headliner, AC/DC tribute band Night Prowler.
Early estimates put Harbor Fest's weekend nights at another $20,000 raised for the Marquette West Rotary Foundation. Marquette West Rotary organizes and runs the event.
