MARQUETTE, MI. - Edwin Russell Malmborg, age 78, of Marquette died Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans where he had been residing for the last two years.
Russell was born in Marquette, a son of Edwin and Fannie (Mackey) Malmborg and attended John D. Pierce High School. Russell enlisted in the U.S. Army serving our country in Germany until his honorable discharge in 1956. He then attended Northern Michigan University earning his bachelor and master degrees.
He taught in Munising for 15 years and then took employment at Cleveland Cliffs Iron Mine until his retirement in 1998. Russell's hobbies included crossword puzzles, a cold beer in the evening and watching sports.
Survivors include his brothers Bill (Bernice) Malmborg of Green Bay, WI and Allan (Mary) Malmborg of Ishpeming, his special long time friend Eleanor Steinhoff and her children Charlene Ruperd, Steve Steinhoff, Gail Richards and Sandra Karpen.
Honoring Russell's wishes cremation has taken place and no services will be held. The Swanson-Lundquist Funeral Home is serving the family where condolences may be expressed online at swansonlundquistfuneral home.com
