MARQUETTE - In a precise and coordinated operation that rivaled any marine amphibious assault, seven houses adjacent to Marquette General Hospital were moved intact Tuesday to locations in Marquette Township and the city.
An 18- hour effort, which began at 6 a.m. on Magnetic Street, it involved a convoy of heavy-duty trailers, a six-wheel-drive vehicle, two front-end loaders and a police escort - as well as a sizeable contingent of support people.
GWINN - Registration for new students to the Gwinn Area Community Schools from grades 7-12 is set for Aug. 21, 22, 23 and 24, between 9 a. m. and noon and again from 1-3 p.m.

MARQUETTE - Harold C. Christenson, 370 W. Park St., Marquette, is the new chairman of the Marquette County Republican Committee.
He was elected to succeed Paul T. Schneider, 420 Cedar St., Marquette, who resigned that post recently after having served for several years.
ESCANABA - Upper Michigan's three colleges - Northern Michigan University, Marquette; Michigan Tech, Houghton, and Suomi College, Hancock - will jointly sponsor an educational booth at the Upper Peninsula State Fair at Escanaba.
College books are available at the booth as well as other pertinent information for prospective students.
