NEGAUNEE, MI. - Carol Ann Terres, 79, of 117 Heritage Drive, Negaunee Township and formerly of Teal Lake Ave, Negaunee, entered eternal life Wednesday morning, August 13, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Lake Superior Hospice.
Carol was born August 2, 1935 in New Swanzy to William and Judy (Negrinelli) Durocher and graduated from Gwinn High School, Class of 1953. Following high school, she attended business training school in Minneapolis and went on to work in Chicago, Escanaba and Marquette.
In 1960, she met Fred Terres, and they were married in Gwinn at St. Anthony Catholic Church. They moved to Negaunee where they lived for 48 years and were blessed with 4 wonderful children: Teresa (Verle) Heyer of Coraopolis, PA, Susan (Mark) Hewitt of Palmer, Bill (Jen) Terres of Negaunee Township and Steven (Shannon) Terres of Ishpeming. Carol was a stay-at-home mother and she enjoyed every minute raising her children.
She attended all of their sporting events; track, gymnastics, baseball, basketball and wrestling, and also helped with Camp Fire Girls (Girl Scouts) and Boy Scouts. In 1984 she returned to work at Russo's Supermarket, SuperOne Foods and Mama Russo's Catering. Carol also worked for the Negaunee Credit Union for 25 years.
Mrs. Terres was a devout member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee since 1960, and was active in helping care for the church. She loved cooking and baking for her family and friends, walking, reading, and watching TV and old movies.
Along with her 4 children, Carol is survived by 9 grandchildren: Nichol (Moises Trejo), Chelsea and Caulder Hewitt, Meghan, Anna and Anthony Terres, Vanessa and Travis Heyer, and Michael Terres; a great-grand- daughter, Aubrea Rae Gemme; 3 step-grand- children: Marla, Kyle and Shawn Riutta; a brother, Alfred (Kathie) Durocher of Ishpeming; 2 brothers-in-law: Edward (Carol) Terres and Paul (Gail) Terres; a special, wonderful aunt, Shirley Negrinelli of Gwinn; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Frederick J. Terres on August 27, 2008; father- and mother-in-law, Henry and Marion Terres; sister-in-law, Hetta (Terres) Conradson; and a nephew, Michael Terres.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon on Saturday, August 16, at St. Paul Catholic Church with Monsignor Peter Oberto officiating. Interment will take place in the Gwinn Cemetery. Grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 am until the time of Mass at noon at the church on Saturday, and also at a luncheon following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Paul Catholic Church Memorial Fund in Carol's honor.
