MARQUETTE, MI. - Gertrude M. Prosen, age 95, formerly of 298 S. Bertrand Lake, Gwinn, entered eternal life Monday, August 4, 2014, at Norlite Nursing Center in Marquette following a lengthy illness.
Born December 23, 1918 in Iron River, a daughter of the late Gustave and Mary Malvina (Anderson) Anderson, Gert was raised in the Davidson Location of Iron River, graduating from the Iron River High School. She moved to Marquette for several years during which she bartended at the Green Mill, Remillards and Flanigans.
She then moved to Milwaukee where she owned and operated a tavern with her husband for several years. She later worked at Briggs and Stratton as a crank shaft operator until retirement in 1980. She returned to live in the Gwinn area in 1981.
Gert was an avid bowler, marksman, and loved to fish. She was known for her generosity and the family gatherings on Bertrand Lake every Fourth of July. She was a great lover of animals and had many dogs and birds throughout her life.
Survivors include a nephew, Rod (Sue) Hanson of Marquette, a niece, Darlene (Tom) Auld of Gwinn, a niece, Sandie (Paul) Laine; and a great-niece, Shari Brugman of Marquette; and several other great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her two sisters, Bernice Hanson and Marguerite Davison; and a nephew, Don Brugman.
At Gert's request, no services will be held.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff and residents of the Norlite Nursing Center and UP Home Health and Hospice for their compassionate and professional care of Gertrude, and for the many kindnesses extended to her family.
