SAVANNAH, GA. - Melvin Scott Jones, 74 passed away on July 19, 2014 under the care of Savannah Hospice where he had been a patient for 4 days.
Melvin was born in Parkersburg West Virginia, grew up in Seaford Delaware. After graduating High School, he joined the United States Air Force. He started his career at K.I. Sawyer AFB right out of basic training. This is where he met his wife of 49 years, Sharon (Ekdahl) Jones formally of Champion, Michigan. After serving in Vietnam, Melvin returned to the states and traveled to many great places. Once he completed his tour working on the Air Force One Fleet at Andrews AFB, he was able to return to K.I. Sawyer and retired in 1984. Because of his love of planes, he had his second career with American Airlines. It was like going home when the American Eagle operation returned to the very same hanger that he worked in for so many years.
Along with Sharon, Melvin is survived by his daughter Lisa Cory (Ned) of Negaunee, Melani Arpin (Donnie) of Savannah Georgia, the apple of his eye, his granddaughter Amber Cory of Savannah Georgia, and his grandson Brandon Cory of Negaunee.
Fox and Weeks in Savannah Georgia will be handling the memorial service Thursday, July 24 at 3:00 PM. A Military burial will take place at the Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
