MARQUETTE - Two Marquette County high schools will host basketball shooting seminars this week with a recognized shooting coach originally from the Upper Peninsula.
The Pat Miller U-Can-Shoot Clinic will be held on Thursday at Westwood and Marquette Senior high schools. Westwood will host its clinic from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., while the one at MSHS is from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Both are open to students entering grades 6-12 this fall.
The three-hour, hands-on lecture on the mechanics of shooting includes Miller's five drills for a fluid, successful shot that can enhance a lifetime of practice and playing.
Coaches and parents are encouraged to attend and also visit the website www.ucanshoot.com for video samples.
Miller, inducted into the U.P. Sports Hall of Fame in 1988, was a state champion at Menominee High School and also played at Michigan State University.
He was head coach at Northwood Institute for more than a decade and an NCAA Division I assistant with several programs - including Central Michigan University - and was a shooting consultant with the Detroit Pistons.
Cost for the seminar is $20 and includes a practice drills handout. Advance registration is not required.
