Students from Marquette County enjoyed a week of music making and fun at Iron County Band Camp in Crystal Falls from June 15-21. Musical professionals from around the country made their way to the Upper Peninsula to help mold these young musical minds for the 60th-consecutive year. Students took part in private lessons, full rehearsals, sectional recitals, and music theory clinics, all leading up to the final concert performance at Forest Park High School. Andrew Pelletier, professor of Horn at Bowling Green State University and Principal Horn of the Detroit Opera House, had this to say about his experience teaching at the camp: "One of the things that makes Batawagama excellent in my opinion is that the students are really good kids. They work really hard, they have good, positive attitudes. They like being here. They like making music together. And the faculty here is top notch. It is such a gem to work with these other faculty. It combines to make an extraordinary week." Visit www.batawagama.com to learn more about Iron County Band Camp. There you will find a video recap of the 2014 band camp experience and much more.
