MARQUETTE - The Erickson Center for the Arts invites the public to attend an Artist's Reception at the Erickson Center in the Waterfront Gallery and Gifts from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The reception is being held in conjunction with the American Medley exhibit on display through September.
The two featured artists are Renee Michaud and Genevieve Cousineau.
In addition, there are more than 20 other artists and writers with work on display in the Waterfront Gallery and Gifts. Many pieces in a variety of mediums are available for sale.
ECA is a sponsor for the William Bonifas Fine Arts Center Northern Exposure exhibit. The Featured Artist sponsorship involves selecting an artist to feature in an exhibit.
Renee Michaud's work was selected by ECA's Fine Arts Committee and is currently on display at the Erickson Center. In addition, in 2012 she was awarded the First Time Exhibitors Award by the Lake Superior Art Association and the First Prize 2D at the Great Lakes Showcase in 2014.
She currently resides in the Ishpeming area and owns the Nook and Cranny Art Studio in the historic Gossard Building in Ishpeming. Her collages, silks and jewelry are on display in her studio. Michaud is a member of the Lake Superior Art Association and the International Society of Experimental Artists.
While at Michigan State University, she earned a degree in art education. Her area of emphasis was printmaking, which lent itself well to the layering techniques in her collages. Each of her collages invites the viewer to get close and explore the images and stories represented.
