NEGAUNEE, MI - Jeanette Cecelia Pascoe, 89, formerly of 100 Birch St., Negaunee, passed into Heaven two days before her 90th birthday, Friday morning, June 13, 2014 at Brookridge Heights Assisted Living under the care of their wonderful staff and U.P. Home Health and Hospice.
Jeanette was born June 15, 1924 in Marquette to John and Elizabeth (VanPaar) Blemberg and graduated from Bishop Baraga High School, Class of 1942. She grew up on the south side of Marquette on Craig St. and was very proud to be the 11th child of 15 in the Voet/Blemberg family. Following graduation she worked for several years at Guelff Printing in Marquette. Jeanette met Benjamin Pascoe at Kelly's Slide in Negaunee Township after WWII, and they married on February 4, 1948. Together they raised four children in Negaunee and celebrated 50 years of marriage before Ben passed away. Jeanette was also employed with Negaunee Public Schools as a cook for several years at Lakeview School.
Mrs. Pascoe was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed playing cards and teaching her grandchildren at a young age, watching TV game shows, picking blueberries and entertaining family and friends at the family camp on Noreen Lake in Forsyth Township. During retirement, Ben and Jeanette enjoyed spending time in Lake Havasu City, AZ with family and friends.
Surviving are 2 sons: Steven (Cristine) and Douglas (Karen) Pascoe, both of Negaunee; daughter, Carol (Martin) Hanninen of Ishpeming; daughter-in-law, Julie Pascoe of Ishpeming; 10 grandchildren: Kelly (Christopher) Lunseth, Dane (Jennifer) Pascoe, Katie (Ryan) Halvorsen, Neil (Amber) Pascoe, Amy (Adam) Cassandra, Jeffrey Hanninen, Sara (Eric) Hinze, Benjamin, Phillip and Rachel Pascoe; 9 great- grandchildren: Ella and Olivia Lunseth, Chase Halvorsen, Macey Pascoe, Gracie Kelly, Natania and Thomas Pascoe, and Abby and Lexi Hinze, and a 10th great-grandchild due in October; 2 brothers: John Blemberg of Marquette and Ronald (Kay) Blemberg of Sun City West, AZ; a sister, Margaret (William) Nystrom of DePere, WI; 2 sisters-in-law: Joan Blemberg and Mary Blemberg; 3 brothers-in- law: Walter Cook, Melvin Kevern and Edwin Seppala; numerous nieces and nephews, 'too many to count' as she loved to say.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Benjamin on March 25, 1998; a son Thomas in November of 1999; and siblings: George Voet, Marie Hokenson, Edward Voet, Frilda Bertrand, Evangeline Rosewall, Peter Blemberg, Alphonse Blemberg, Frank Blemberg, Ann Cook, Joseph Blemberg and Leona Kevern.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, June 17th at St. Paul Catholic Church with Monsignor Peter Oberto officiating. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. Jeanette's grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 am until the time of Mass at 12:00 noon at the church on Tuesday, and also at a luncheon in the church hall immediately following the Mass. Jeanette's last three years were spent at Brookridge Heights Assisted Living Memory Care Unit, and her family wishes to thank Dr. Catherine Kroll and the wonderful staff for the loving, tender care she was given.
