GREEN GARDEN, MI. - Bruce Ernest Reader, 66, of Green Garden, MI, lost his battle to cancer on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at his life-long home with his family by his side.
Bruce was born December 31, 1947 in Marquette to Ernest and Edna (Zerbel) Reader and graduated from Graveraet High School in 1966. Bruce worked at Montgomery Wards changing tires and various construction jobs before a 30 year career at LS&I Railroad Co., where he retired from in July 2011. He also worked his entire life on the family farm. Bruce was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church and was a member of the Carmen Union, where he was an officer for several years.
Bruce's lifelong hobbies included fishing, hunting and four wheeling around the family farm with his loyal companion and best friend, Rip, by his side.
Bruce was proceeded in death by both of his parents. He leaves behind his only son, Jeremy (Jaymie) Reader, Granddaughters, Kaylee and Gabriella Reader, Grandsons, Ethan Reader and Tres Bednarz. Also surviving him are his sister Jean (Melvin) Hill, his brothers, James and Richard (Kay) Reader, nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves behind his best friend, Riptide.
Swanson-Lundquist Funeral Home served the family.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Calvary Lutheran Church, 450 West Ohio St., Marquette at 11:00 AM. A reception at the church follows.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be set up at UPAWS animal shelter and The Living Room (cancer center at Upper Peninsula Medial Center).
