The Mining Journal

Matt Collins of Troop 370 in Marquette, shown with his parents Joy and Craig Collins, was recently presented the Eagle Scout Award. His scouting highlights include learning scuba at Camp Tesomas and kayaking on Lake Michigan and during summer camps at Camp Hiawatha. His Eagle Scout service project was helping construct the community gardens in Chocolay Township. In school, Collins placed in the Upper Peninsula tennis championships, was Kiwanis Athlete of the Month, was a participant in the American Legion's Boys State program, and was on a "We the People" team of advance placement government students that placed first in their division in state competition. Matt is graduating from Marquette High School and will be studying mathematics at Brigham Young University in the fall.
