REPUBLIC, MI - Christine Marie "Chris" Mattila, 61, of 5158 Cut Across Road, Republic, entered eternal life Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at Marquette General Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
The former Christine Nolan was born Jan. 7, 1953, in Ironwood, MI, first born daughter of Terry Nolan and the late Mary (Hoover) Nolan. She attended the Republic/Michigamme Schools and in 1989 graduated from Northern Michigan University with a degree in Business Administration with a strong emphasis in accounting. Chris had worked as the Republic Township Clerk and then worked at NEWCAP in Oconto, WI for 3 years, retiring in 1997 due to medical problems.
Chris was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Republic, where she taught CCD classes and was a lay reader. She tended to her roses, loved crafts and crocheting. Her last project was a pair of handmade slippers, a special gift for her oldest grandchild, Kyle.

On June 2, 1972, Chris was married to Robert "Bob" Mattila at the Methodist Church in Republic. He survives. Also surviving are two beloved sons and a daughter: Kraig A. Mattila, Hustisford, WI; Jennifer (Bert) Hanninen, Republic; Casey (Tracy Perry) Mattila, North Republic and special daughter-in-law, Tammy Mattila; her father Terry Nolan of Holcombe, WI; Six Grandchildren: Kyle, Vance and Samantha Mattila; Austin, Dylan and Logan Hanninen. Four sisters: Linda Nolan Carello Smith, Holcombe, WI; Wendy Pope also of Holcombe, WI; Laura Nolan, Wisconsin Rapids and Kathleen DuBois, Colorado. Also numerous darling nieces and nephews, dear cousins, an aunt and three uncles.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no service at this time. Later this summer, a celebration of her life will be announced.
Chris along with Bob, her devoted husband of 42 years, shared together a life time love of their farm, Mattila Valley Farm, caring for horses and many other animals.
She recently commented, "How lucky I am, to share a dream of having horses and a farm with kids and grandkids and other family. I feel peace, happiness and contentment." She showed an appreciation for farm life and made sure her family knew this. She will be deeply missed.
