MARQUETTE - The Marquette County Board unanimously approved fees Tuesday for the current season at Perkins Park and the Big Bay Harbor Marina.
After an increase in some camping and boating fees last year, there will be no increase this year.
The rates approved Tuesday for this season at Perkins Park in Big Bay are $16 for no hook-ups; $21 for electric only; $24 for electric and water; $27 for full hook-up; $30 for full hook-up pull through; $20 for tent rental and $80 for a cabin rental.
Last year, seasonal boating rates were increased for the Big Bay Harbor to $22.75 per foot, up from $21.40 per foot in 2012. Those rates will remain the same this year.
In considering whether to propose a fee increase, staff compared rates from several area camping areas including Van Riper State Park, Lake Gogebic State Park, Tourist Park in Marquette, Munising Tourist Park, Ontonagon County Park, Woodland Park in Grand Marais and Gogebic County parks.
Kim Bourgeois, park manager and harbormaster, said average fees for campsites most resembling Perkins Park were $16 for no hook-ups; $21 for electric only; $22.80 for electric and water; $30 for full hook-ups and $30 for pull-through.
Bourgeois said Tuesday camping usage was "above average" for May at the park this year.
In April 2013, the county board approved a small increase in some camping fees at the park and seasonal mooring fees at the marina.
At that time, fees for full hook-up campsites were hiked from $26 to $27 each night, along with full hook-up and pull through camping fees increasing from $28 to $30.
Prior to that, the last camping fee increase at the park was in 2011. No increase in the $2 daily vehicle pass, $18 seasonal use fee or changes in park rules were proposed for 2013 and the same was true for this season.
