To the Journal editor:
Congratulations to Victoria Dean and Mill Smith, members of the Gwinn High School Youth Advisory Council, for securing a drug affected and alcohol affected simulator baby to educate students.
I was happy to read the story about the help the Marquette County Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition is giving to get this teaching baby in the hands of students.
As an adoptive mother of a fetal alcohol-affected child, I'm thrilled to see education about drugs and alcohol affects on children. The brain damage and physical problems are life long and completely preventable.
If a crying, trembling simulator baby helps a future mother to abstain from drugs and alcohol, then it will be a very wise, life-saving investment.
