CRYSTAL FALLS - Westwood came within a playoff hole of claiming both medalists at a dual high school golf meet held at Crystal View Golf Course in Crystal Falls on Tuesday.
Sophomore Connor Mason shot 36 to carry off boys medalist honors by five strokes, though his Patriots lost the team race to Forest Park by four.
Westwood's Laruen Farley bogeyed the first playoff hole and FP's Annie Taylor parred it after both shot 56 in the girls meet. The Trojans won that team title by 34 strokes.
"I was pretty happy to have them do so well," WHS coach Jared Koski said. "Lauren is a freshman and to get into the playoff for medalist was impressive. So was Connor shooting an even-par 36 on this course, which has some pretty small greens."
The next four best scorers among boys came from Forest Park, led by Kevin Stankewicz with 41.
Patriots junior Michael Farley shot 45, junior Eric Farley 46 and senior Trevor Swanson 47.
