KIVA, MI. - Martin W. Erickson, age 74, passed away March 28, 2014 at the Tendercare Heath Center in Munising, MI.
Martin was born on May 13, 1939 to his late parents Werner and Tynie (Sipila) Erickson. He served his country during the Cuban conflict in 1962 in the Second Armored Division, 124th Ordinance Battalion, Delta Company, doing mechanical maintenance, earning an E4 rating over his group. He received an honorable discharge in December 1964.
He worked for Ashley Auto Service in Lower Michigan as a transmission rebuilder. Later, he worked in Marquette, and then started his own automobile repair service in Kiva, which he operated until his retirement.
Martin is survived by three nephews, Daniel, Timothy, James LaChance and one niece, Lisa LaChance, and four first cousins: Pastor Leslie Niemi, Joyce Joel, Betty Marlow, and James Sipila.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister and only sibling, Darlene LaChance and two cousins: Marvin Anderson and William Niemi.
The family would like to thank the Health Care Staff at Marquette Hospital, the VA Facility in Iron Mountain, as well as the staff at the Tendercare Facility for their care of Martin.
Martin Erickson will be interred at the Limestone Township Cemetery on an undisclosed date and time per request of Mrs. Katherine Stine.
