SEBRING, FL. - Wilbert August "Bill" Spilker, 89, of Sebring,FL, and former Detroit resident, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at the Good Shepard Hospice House in Sebring.
Bill was born July 24, 1924 in Detroit to William and Martha (Price) Spilker and graduated from Mackenzie High School, Class of 1942. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and served during WWII in the European Theatre of Operations. Following his service to his country, Bill attended the Meinzinger School of Art and became a self-employed and very accomplished commercial artist.
Mr. Spilker was a life member of VA Romo Post #3165, Negaunee VFW, and also a member of Golden Ark Masonic Lodge #595 in Taylor, MI. In his free time, Bill enjoyed painting, gardening and tending to his flowers, fishing, traveling, entertaining and cooking and baking.
Most of all, he loved the time spent with his family and friends, especially his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will forever be remembered for his contagious smile and his kind and caring way with people and nature.
Surviving are his loving companion of 18 years, Maudie Wilcox of Sebring; 3 loving daughters: Deborah Marvin of Rochester Hills, MI, Karen (Allan) Koskey of Negaunee, MI and Gaye (James) Huddas of Canton, MI; 6 grandchildren: Pamela Marvin, Allison (Jeff) Rogers, Louis Koskey, and Sarah, Scott and Claire Huddas; great-grandchildren: Paul Marvin and Sadie and Lucy Rogers; sister, Dorothy (Kenneth) Condon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Katherine (Tauriainen) Spilker on June 4, 1996, an infant brother and a son-in-law, Paul Marvin.
Private family services will be held at the Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Park in Livonia, MI.
