ISHPEMING, MI. - Garnet H. Racine, 90 of Ishpeming passed away Sunday evening at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming where he had been a patient since November 2012.
Born October 19, 1923 in Ishpeming, the son of Samuel and Jennie (Perrault) Racine. He graduated from St. Johns Convent school and attended Ishpeming Public Schools before enlisting in the United States Army in 1943. He served in France and Germany during the war and reinlisted after the war serving in Germany.
He married the former Evelyn Lukkari on October 19, 1949 at St. John's Catholic Church in Ishpeming. He worked for the Jones and Laughlin at their Tracy Mine and later for Cleveland Cliffs and the Cliff Shaft Mine. He and his wife Evelyn were proprietors of Aunty's Restaurant and Racine's Bootery both of Ishpeming.

Later they spent winters in Florida and Texas with Evelyn working in a Bank and Garnet as First Mate on a fishing boat. They were both happiest at their camp on Big Perch Lake south of Ishpeming. Garnet enjoyed breeding and training Labrador Retrievers and was instrumental with developing Republic Ridge Hunting Resort in Republic with his nephew Brian.
He is survived by his brother Donald Sam (Lillian) Racine of Ishpeming along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn in 2006 and a brother Jack Racine and 4 sisters, Irene LaFreniere, Eleanor Swanson, Dorothy LaForest and Lorraine Dyer.
Private family services were held with burial in the Ishpeming Cemetery. The Racine Funeral Chapel of Ishpeming is handling the arrangements.
