Part of the "Images of America" series, "Keweenaw County" is being released Monday. The book features more than 200 vintage images of what's often called Michigan's Top of the World.

It was written by Jennifer Billock, a magazine editor and culinary travel writer who's an active member of the Great Lakes Shipwreck Society as well as the International Travel Writers Alliance.
"I hope this book provides residents an insightful view into the history of the area," Billock said in a press release. "The unique landscape and constant opportunity for immersion in nature truly makes Keweenaw County a year-round playground."
The book focuses on the residents and places that shaped Keweenaw County's path.
It also explains Lake Superior's influence on the area.
Some of the photos in the book are from private collections and have not be released previously.

Sault Ste. Marie resident Mikel B. Claussen has been writing about northern Michigan for more than three decades. His new book - which will be available Tuesday - covers the history of Au Sable Point Lighthouse, which was constructed to warn sailors about the sandstone reef that reached out to "grab" many ships.
According to a snippet from the July 29, 1871 Mining Journal: "A light was more a necessity at Au Sable Point than any other unprotected location in the district."
Claussen worked to chart the history of the point, which is west of Grand Marais, and the lighthouse which served as a warning of the mile-long sandstone reef that claimed countless ships and sailors.
In his introduction in the book, Claussen writes: "Au Sable Point is a place of mystery and tragedy. Located on the southern shore of Lake Superior in the heart of a region known as 'Shipwreck Alley,' Au Sable, called Big Sable in its early years, is a graveyard of ships and men that stands alone among the Great Lakes. It is an extraordinary place that attracted extraordinary events."

The editors of Lake Superior Magazine have just released a third edition of "Lake Superior The Ultimate Guide to the Region," a book that has a list of the top 50 things to experience while near the largest Great Lake.
New to this edition are GPS coordinates for visitors centers, expanding listings for both lodging and restaurants, suggested itineraries and information on the best scenic drives.
The guide is packed with color photos, maps and graphics. It is tabbed by region to make for easy perusing.

This tome was created by the founders of the website Heavy Table. "Lake Superior Flavors" is a celebration of food culture around the shores of the big lake.
A culinary journey around Lake Superior was documented by author James Norton and photographer Becca Dilley.
The duo captured the finest of restaurants along with diners and what are affectionately called dives.
They shopped at farmers markets and met with both fishermen and brewers to explore the history of the area, culinary wise.
It's a field guide to the diversity and beauty of the region and its food.
